The Things People Believe

I used to tell myself that nobody wanted to hear the gospel since they already knew it anyway. A time or two I had talked to people about Jesus and they groaned (literally) and said something about “another fanatic.” I assumed that they were well versed in the gospel accounts, how to receive Jesus, and all the blessings of salvation. They knew about salvation but just didn’t want it. The last thing they needed was for a guy like me to repeat the whole thing to them.

Well, I was wrong. For the most part, people don’t know. And as time goes by, it’s not necessarily getting any better. Bible literacy is far from being on the rise. Over ten years of time, I’ve watched incoming freshman classes at one of the largest campuses in the land. My conclusion is that fewer and fewer are even accidentally absorbing any knowledge of the things of God. Take a look at some of what the brightest and best have said about the Bible.
