But the irony is that the so-called “basics”
will be the very sum and substance of the rest of of our
Christian lives. Forgiveness of sins, deliverance from
hell, receiving Christ, having the Holy Spirit, getting eternal
life, becoming a child of God, knowing the grace of God, and
resting in that grace will essentially be everything to us.
Without these things, there really isn’t a Christian life to
speak of. Nor will we receive anything better than them.
Spiritual maturity will involve going deeper into the basics and
learning to apply them in the myriad experiences of life.
The laying of a foundation then is more than a phase where new
believers do a fill in the blank workbook and memorize a handful
of scripture references.
Something so cursory is not likely to survive
the numerous storms of life, anyway. Jesus Himself said that the
winds and waves would come. When disappointments, cult
recruiters, bad moods, and failures arrive, we had better have a
weather proof faith. This workshop can help the effort
along.
